In picturesque Fig Tree Pocket, a cute, boat-themed playground is nestled into the banks of the Brisbane River. Fig Tree Pocket Riverside Reserve will delight even the smallest aspiring fishers and sea captains.
You’ll also be met with uninterrupted river views, picnic facilities and some magnificent gum trees filled with the bright colours and noises of feathered locals.
Fig Tree Pocket Riverside Reserve Playground
Located in a bend of the Brisbane River, this nautical-themed playground is perfect for toddlers and a quieter alternative to larger nearby parks.
It comprises a central, primary-coloured playground structure with your standard offerings of a climbing pole, net ladder and slide, a wooden jetty, fishing rod, adorable bait and tackle shop.
The nautical theme wouldn’t be complete without a couple of boats. Brisbane Kids have two to choose from: “Plucky” the steam engine boat and a smaller rowboat with a seagull companion.
Another cool inclusion is a suspended rope bridge that could be used to “walk the plank” and is probably the only equipment suited to a slightly older audience. A disc spinner and swing pleasantly overlook the river below.
The tree-filled park offers two picnic shelters and an electric BBQ making this an ideal spot for gatherings and birthday parties. River access is suitable for boating and fishing, while a small lookout provides a nice viewing platform for those who prefer to have their feet planted on solid ground.
OUR TOP TIP – There are photo opportunities galore at this Reserve, so bring your camera One of the enormous gum trees – is so majestic it has even earned the label of “the perfect tree” by visitors.
Imagination Factor at Fig Tree Pocket Riverside Reserve
The nautical theme is a beautiful backdrop for imaginary play aided by the level of detail in the playground and boat accessories. The bait and tack shop, boats, fishing rod and wooden deck, encourage children to act out a whole narrative from start to end.
Brisbane Kids can put these pretend skills to actual use with a working boat ramp attached to the lower section of the park. There’s also plenty of room on the equipment to allow multiple children to enjoy the space anytime.
Accessibility at Fig Tree Pocket Riverside Reserve
There are accessible toilets on site and a paved footpath from the car park, past the playground and down to the river. Both picnic shelters are located on the flat, upper portion of the park which then slopes down quite sharply to the riverbank.
Note – Young children will require close supervision as there is no fencing to guard them from the nearby water.

What We Thought of Fig Tree Pocket Riverside Reserve
This is a great, little toddler-friendly playground and a beautiful, serene spot to enjoy a BBQ picnic with family and friends. The nautical theme gets top marks from us for the imagination factor and perfectly complements the riverside setting.
It’s smaller in size than the nearby Biami Yumba Park and doesn’t really cater to older children but its stunning location and excellent facilities makes it no wonder the locals want to keep it a secret!

Can you swim at Fig Tree Pocket Riverside Reserve
No. There is a consensus that this section of the Brisbane River (like many) contains bull sharks, but the more immediate issue is the amount of watercraft.
