This epic adventure playground will surely become a regular stop in your weekly grocery trip or is impressive enough to be a destination all on its own.

Consultation between locals and Orion Shopping Centre has resulted in a multi-million dollar playground that suits the whole community and is accessible and engaging for all ages.

A vibrant activity centre is the main centrepiece and reaches a hair-raising 11 metres above ground. The tower can be summited via a series of internal ladders or by an incredible 16 metre long Sky Walk bridge giving children a birds-eye view over the expansive outdoor playground below.

There are two enormous tunnel slides on either side of the tower which are sure to test the courage of young thrill seekers and are another stand-out feature. It is important to note the play area is not fenced from the busy car park nearby so close adult supervision is required.

There’s also plenty of activities and equipment for children who prefer to have their feet planted more firmly on the ground. In-built trampolines are a cool addition for little jumpers and climbers will enjoy the mountaineering ropes and large climbing net tunnel. A wheelchair friendly merry-go-round is a welcome inclusion and aims to increase participation opportunities for children of all abilities.

A smaller toddler playground is designed to keep the little ones busy with all the playground favourites including slides, stairs, rock climbing wall, twisty fireman’s pole and colourful see saw. In addition to this is a cognitive play hut which is filled with educational and entertaining developmental activities.

Swings also accommodate both the independent child and the toddlers who might require a bit more assistance. Shade sails or roofing cover the majority of the playground and provide good sun protection.

Imagination factor

The Sky Walk and activity tower encourage a rich level of creative play with a rare opportunity to experience play at such big heights. The variety of equipment has been included to inspire free play and capture the imagination of all ages with spinning, jumping, climbing and swinging sensations.

The overall look of the playground is bright and colourful but with no specific theme it invites children to create their own narrative while either playing individually or with others.

Orion Mega Playground includes in ground trampolines and a wheelchair friendly carousel as well as many ground level activities to promote inclusivity. The adjoining shopping centre contains accessible toilets approximately 50 metres from the play space.

Orion Springfield Central is home to 180 speciality stores and an Event Cinemas movie complex, making it a popular destination for local families. The shopping centre has regular activities for kids as well as a range of fun holiday workshops with more information available on their events calendar.

Just across the road is the popular Orion Lagoon – a huge outdoor water park both free and lifeguard patrolled. It offers plenty of shade, green space, BBQs and even a café to grab an ice cream on those hot summer days. The Lagoon also has water access for people with disabilities, as well as wheelchair accessible public toilet facilities.

The Springfield Central Library is also within the same precinct, offering a contemporary library experience with its own kids programming. The library welcomes families with its playful spaces and children’s activity areas which help to foster an early love of reading.
