Guilfoyles Park in the country town of Walloon, is a nice neighbourhood playground which is full of charm and fun for all ages.
Guilfoyles Park is located in the new Dawn Walloon development, approximately 15 minutes from Ipswich CBD and includes a multi-level castle themed playground, impressive climbing frame, flying fox and a pretend train in recognition of the local railway station.
Guilfoyles Park playground
This relatively new playground in Walloon is at the heart of the community and provides a great meeting place for local families with its open spaces and well-maintained play area. There’s a wide range of equipment to suit climbers, spinners, flyers and sliders and plenty of material for imaginary play.
Standing in the middle of the playground is a multi-storey castle-themed playground with two slides including a huge tunnel slide. Hidden over the different levels is a bunch of engaging activities such as an interactive treasure chest, spider web netting and fireman poles.
Neighbouring the tower is a tall climbing dome made from intertwining ropes and ladders which is sure to entertain confident climbers and challenge young beginners. Adding some big visual appeal and a touch of whimsy is a 10-metre long, red train which although stationary provides an intriguing play space, especially for the minis.
On the opposite side of the parklands is an unshaded area with single flying fox and social swinging circle consisting of 5 standard seats.
There’s also a small learn-to-ride track that connects to the park’s main footpath network and provides an easy, flat surface for bikes and scooters. There is one picnic shelter and bench seating dotted throughout the parklands along with a small, grassy field for ball games.
Note – There are NO toilet facilities at this park.
Imagination Factor at Guilfoyles Park
Guilfoyles Park has a couple of different themes going on from the castle to the train to help influence the direction of play. Naturally, these environments provide a great basis for storytelling while also encouraging collaborative interactions between children.
The castle itself has a fort like feel with a top level viewing platform completely surrounded by acrylic glass.
The domed climbing frame also provides inspiration for fantasy play with its many different playable features and endless methods of reaching the summit. Smaller-sized equipment like the bouncer and seated spinner also create opportunities for younger children to be involved in the fun.
Accessibility at Guilfoyles Park
This Ipswich playground has been designed primarily for use by local residents and as such is a bit lean on amenities with no toilets or BBQs on site.
There is concrete pathing throughout the parklands and flat terrain for the use of prams or wheelchairs.
It has some equipment for really young toddlers with a few ground level activities such as the train however there is no baby swing.

What We Thought of Guilfoyles Park
This is a wonderful playground for local families as it covers most of the playground must-haves without being too big or flashy.
The lack of amenities means it probably isn’t suitable for birthday parties and alike but Brisbane Kids could easily spend an hour here enjoying the wide range of equipment. We think the train is a very cute inclusion and boosts the imagination factor which is an added plus for parents.
